International Day of Non- Violence

Hi ! It is October 2nd the birthday of our father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. The United Nations General Assembly has declared last year on 15 June 2007 to observe the International Day of Non-Violence each year on 2 October – the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who helped lead India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. The day of 2nd October is now known internationally as a small token of recognition for the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and his adoption of the satyagraha (non-violent non-cooperation) as a mode of protest. The late leader’s “novel mode of mass mobilization and non-violent action” brought down colonialism, strengthened the roots of popular sovereignty, of civil, political and economic rights, and greatly influenced many a freedom struggle and inspired leaders like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. It is also the Birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. On this occasion We are giving here some philatelic items related with this special day as a tribute to theses great patriots of India. Our sincere thanks to our distinguished members Er. H.K. Jain of Mandla (M.P.) and Shri Shrikant Parikh of Ahmedabad for their contribution.
