This special cancellation is being provided in Visakhapatnam from 10 April 1982 with the picture of the Dolphin's Nose Light House of Visakhapatnam( Located in the East Coast of India midway between Kolkata and Chennai in the coast line).

The Dolphin's Nose Light House is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.The Dolphin's Nose(hill) is a head land which jets out of the sea(Bay of Bengal) and has a light house.The rocky promontory which is situated at 358 meters above sea level is 174 meters in height and is shaped like a Dolphin's Nose. The beam and illumination from the light house can be seen from a disance of 65 kilometers. and is useful for Mariners.. The massive hillock is also known as Black Mores Hill. A popular picnic spot for Visakhapatnam(also called Vizag) people, the view of the sea from the hill is georgeous..

The Visakhapatnam harbour is a natural harbour with very good depth for large ships to enter the Port., and has only one entrance cum exit. On the left of the entrance channel to the harbour stands the Dolphin's Nose hill and on the right of the channel there is a Venkateswara temple on the Hill constructed during 1886.

Also on the Darga Hill next to it and very close, there is a Maszid called Ishak Madina and also a church called St Johns, constructed during 1844 by Sir Arthur Cotton. The temple, Maszid and the Church close by on this hill is very unique.This place was an Army base camp for Britishers during 18th century.The earlier light house got damaged during 1876 due to cyclone. The present modern light house also has the facility of cyclone forecast. Well laid roads are available to the top of Dolphin's Nose from Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam has a big port from where Iron ore and coal are regularly shipped. In addition the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters is based at Visakhapatnam and a large number of warships and submarines and some of the Naval training establishments are located in Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant a major steel plant in the east coast and Andhra University are also located in Visakhapatnam.

News from Philatelic Societies…

Central India Philatelic Society given farewell to Mr. Anil Pujara

Monthly meeting of Central India Philatelic society was organized on 5th June 2011 at the residence of Mr. Rajendra Agarwal “Shashi” at Satna (M.P.). It was well attended by 21 Philatelists. Following were the activities conducted in the meeting -

CIPS

1. Noted Philatelist, Philatelic writer and active member of Central India Philatelic Society, Mr. Anil Pujara has been transferred from Rewa (M.P.) to Patna (Bihar). Society given farewell to him and presented memento. He congratulated the Society and it's members for very active Philatelic atmosphere.

2. As 5th June was World Environment Day, Mr. Sudhir Jain, secretary of the Society exhibited his exhibits on Environment.

3. New stamps were distributed to the members.

4. Mr Rajendra Agarwal “Shashi” shown some interesting items recently added in his collection of stamps, coins and currency notes.

Society President Mr. Ramesh Lajpatrai given welcome speech and Mr. Jinendra Jain, Treasurer given vote of thanks.
