Royal Mail honours First GB Gold Olympic winners…

Britain has won Olympic gold in the men's team sprint cycling as Chris Hoy, Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny blew away the London 2012 velodrome in their race against France. And Peter Robert Russell Wilson has won a Gold Medal for Team GB in the Men's Double Trap Shooting and Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott follow this up with Gold in Men's Canoe Double. Royal Mail will issue next day stamps to commemorate these wins.

Stamps featuring Great Britain's gold medal winners from day six of the Olympic Games have gone into print. The Royal Mail stamps honour Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie's victory in the men's canoe slalom and Peter Wilson's double trap shooting triumph.

Another features cyclist Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy, who took the men's team sprint cycling gold.

Royal Mail has pledged to issue a stamp for each Team GB gold during the Games.

 

Gold post boxes

Royal Mail will also paint a postbox gold in each of those towns in celebration.

These will be in Westhill Drive, Aberdeenshire, for Tim Baillie; St Paul's Square, Bedford, for Etienne Stott; Cheap Street, Sherborne in Dorset, for Peter Wilson; Princes Street/Hanover Street, Edinburgh, for Sir Chris Hoy; Lloyd Street/Albert Square in Manchester for Philip Hindes and Churchgate in Bolton for Jason Kenny.

On stand-by to collect the completed printed sheets of stamps is a fleet of 90 Royal Mail vehicles poised to deliver to the outlets across the UK. A further 4,700 post offices will receive the gold medal stamps within a week.

Britain claimed two golds and a silver within the space of five minutes in the men's canoe slalom and the men's double trap shooting on Thursday. Canoeists Baillie and Stott triumphed in mid-afternoon at the Lee Valley Water Centre, giving Britain their first ever Olympic gold in the canoe slalom.

Moments later, shooter Wilson won at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich - taking the host nation's gold tally to five.Britain's men's cycling team sprint trio smashed their own world record to beat France to the gold medal at the Olympic Velodrome.

The team clocked 42.600 seconds, beating the mark they set in the previous round and taking Sir Chris to the fifth Olympic gold of his career.

On Thursday, Team GB's first gold medal winners of the London 2012 Olympics were honoured with the special stamps which were rushed out by lunchtime.

Helen Glover and Heather Stanning rowed to a stunning win in the women's pairs on Wednesday, becoming the first British women ever to win rowing gold. Gold medal winning cyclist Bradley Wiggins was also honoured with his own stamp after finishing first in the men's time trial road race. The stamps cost the normal first class price of 60p.
